Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. Now this is a gorgeously-painted camouflage helmet named to Earl Lester Meyers, Prisoner of War Escort Company 85, Army Service Corps. The helmet is in good shape with much of the paint retained, and it retains its original liner although it is fully broken away from the helmet. But on the interior of the liner is the name LESTER MEYERS HOOVERSVILLE PA.

The Army Service Corps (ASC) in World War I was responsible for supplying horses and mules to other army units, and for operating units in the Services of Supply, including the many Prisoner of War Escort companies which escorted tens of thousands of captured German prisoners over the several months they were kept in captivity past the end of the war. 

The heat stamp on the underside of the rim is FS 164, which indicates the helmet is British-made, produced by Thomas Firth & Sons Ltd of Sheffield. The heat stamp and the split rivets on the chinstrap bales are a solid indication and a good reference point for identifying British made helmets for American use during the Great War.

The helmet is painted with a gorgeous camouflage pattern of red, white, green, blue, gray, and yellow with the insignia for the Army Service Corps (ASC) painted on the front. The red paint of the gear really stands out. The back of the helmet appears to have some paint loss. A really phenomenal example of a camouflage helmet for a scarce unit of the AEF. Comes ready for further research and display.
